I have always had a passion for outdoor holidays. It goes right back to my childhood when in the summer holidays we would pack up the family tent and all the gear and head off for a family holiday down to the coast. On arrival we would pitch the tent, get everything unpacked, relax and be in holiday mode, Mum and Dad would have a drink and my sister and I would disappear off to explore not having to return until the campsite lights switched off.
When my own family came along my husband Jim and I decided to upgrade from tenting to caravanning. In our 5 berth Fleetwood Countryside we would each have our own tasks, pink jobs and blue jobs. My ‘pink’ jobs involved unpacking, sorting the kids, making sure we had food, cooking etc, Jim’s ‘blue’ jobs involved caravan maintenance, towing, parking, awning, water, waste and electricity connections, oh and port-a-loo duties! As soon as we arrived at the campsite the boys would disappear off on their bikes and inevitably come back some time later with a raft of friends they had made from the campsite. Evenings would encompass a great social scene, BBQ food and one or two drinks. Those holidays were magical.
When I unexpectedly became a single parent all thoughts of future caravanning holidays disappeared, there was no way me and 2 young boys could take over the ‘blue’ jobs of hitching up the caravan, towing, parking etc. For a while I had lost all hope of ever having those magical outdoor family holidays again and then a friend introduced me to the idea of campervanning. I had my reservations but hired one for a weekend just to see what it was like.
It was amazing! The ease of driving a campervan from place to place, the ability to stop off on the way to pick up supplies from the supermarket, the simplicity and speed with which it could all be set up and running and all done by myself and 2 young boys. I was so surprised at how much I enjoyed the whole experience, I told all my friends and everyone I spoke to, how great these campervans were and how they have given me and my kids the opportunity to enjoy outdoor family holidays again.
I was so overwhelmed at how easy a campervanning holiday was that I wanted to give other families the opportunity to experience the freedom, simplicity and enjoyment that campervanning offers so I set up The Cotswold Holiday Company hiring out stylish VW campervans at affordable prices with a friendly service.
